Identifying a vehicle from its registration
Every vehicle registered in France is tied to a technical record: make, model, variant, fuel, power, date of first registration. Lookup by registration means retrieving those details from the plate alone, and filling the vehicle record in an instant.

The VIN, for imports and international work
The vehicle identification number (VIN, ISO 3779) is a unique 17-character reference, stamped on the vehicle and recognised worldwide. Where a French registration reaches its limit — an imported vehicle, not yet registered in France — the VIN takes over.
Identifying by VIN makes buying and taking in imported vehicles safer: you start from a reliable international reference rather than an approximate entry.
From lookup to advert, without a break

Does lookup work for every vehicle?+
Registration lookup covers vehicles already registered in France. For an import, or a vehicle not yet registered, the VIN takes over thanks to its international reach.
